Musical selection: Pete Rock & CL Smooth — They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)
Nwala’s Reply
How do I move the way I do?
Well, how can you not, father?
Your melancholy puzzles me, cousin
Why do you not rejoice with us?
I see, son; still stuck in the mundane
Still corporeal, linear, limited
I gifted you with a name, and yet
Here you sit, awaiting more morsels
We tried showing it all at once
But fearful, you averted your eyes
Like this, you’ll never see the whole elephant
But if you move, it may become clearer
Do not worry, brother; take your time
We will embrace you when you’re ready.

Writer’s note: Sorry for digging through my crates again. Also, please pardon my absence. My week has been consumed by the 2022 Port Townsend Writers Conference. My participation has been online, but it has been a hybrid of in-person and online lectures and workshops.
This is my very first writer’s conference, and shucks-howdy, it has been a blast! We have a few more events tomorrow, but I’m already looking forward to next year. Adelia Ritchie, thank you for introducing me to this new world of amazing writers, curators, instructors, and professors. :)
