STRANGE ATTRACTORS SERIES: PART 13
The Lamentation
“I, who live on, saw the autumn moon again this year, but I shall not see again the friend I have lost.”
― Anonymous, The Tale of the Heike
An empty plot overtaken by green,
nature reclaimed time and space’s footprint
where a sturdy oaken home once stood,
sheltering mommy, daddy, and me through
every birthday sang, and especially
the ear-piercing disputes; we bounced into
one another up until the last act
lunging at the plunging of the knife; the
place which encased all I once was? No more;
shelter and innocence, relegated
to memory, with mommy and daddy.
Soon, this barren relic they left behind
— this wretched old maid who never found her
way around a kindness for kindness’
sake — soon, too soon, I will join them in an
endless silence for our silence’s sake.
